Wind Energy

LayerCo has partnered with both local and international companies on 15 wind energy infrastructure projects, including initiatives supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

In planning and developing wind energy infrastructure, it is essential to carry out preliminary work and site studies in order to protect cultural heritage and archaeological monuments. For the same purpose, ongoing cultural heritage monitoring is necessary during land works. Monitoring helps minimize the risk of damage to existing architectural monuments or archaeological layers.

Layerco has been involved in wind energy infrastructure development projects both at the initial and monitoring stages. Our task was to conduct archaeological and cultural heritage analysis of the project areas before construction began. We carried out reconnaissance at the project sites and prepared a preliminary assessment document.

Based on the monuments identified on the project territories, we developed an archaeological sensitivity map and Cultural Heritage preservation plan — assessing the likelihood of discoveries — which, together with other studies, was integrated into the wind energy infrastructure construction process. Following the preliminary research, we also carried out archaeological excavations.

As part of the ongoing project, we are also working with local communities: together with the commissioning company, we prepared informational brochures about our archaeological research; the results were also presented to students and teachers in local schools. The findings will be published once the project is completed.
